What Greater Thing Awaits

Jaime and Keira and Trayce

BOTH GIRLS had overnight bags in Jaime’s car and immediately went to his room to change out of their formal wear. Jaime figured he would get his turn later and just tossed his jacket and tie on the living room sofa. He went to the kitchen to get sparkling water for them.

«God, she’s gorgeous!» Keira said in his mind. He looked out of her eyes at Trayce standing naked in front of her.

«Hey! If he gets to peek at me, he gets to peek at you, too,» Trayce laughed, looking at Keira standing naked in front of her.

«I’m sorry I have nothing of interest to share,» Jaime said. The view was quickly closed down and a few minutes later, the girls came out in pajamas.

“We’ll use the bathroom while you get ready for bed,” Keira said.

They ran into the bathroom and Jaime went to his bedroom. The girls had not been overly neat. Their gowns lay across the back of Jaime’s desk chair and their hose and underwear were piled on top. He spent a moment just looking at the assortment of things they’d taken off. Then he realized they’d put pajamas on! He scrambled to look in his drawers and finally found a pair of boxers and a T-shirt. That was as close to pajamas as anything he owned. He scrambled out of his clothes, piling them on top of the girls’ gowns, then put on his makeshift pajamas. He stepped out of the bedroom as the girls came out of the bathroom. They went to the kitchen and he brushed his teeth.

«Thank you for getting unflavored water,» Trayce said. «I can just imagine what grapefruit flavored water would be like after minty toothpaste!»

«Ooh, yuck!» Keira joined.

«I didn’t figure you’d want sodas after brushing teeth,» Jaime said, joining them in the kitchen. He stood just looking at them for a moment. «Wow!»

«Yeah. We’re really here,» Trayce said.

«Here’s to love!» Keira said raising her glass.

As soon as they’d had a drink, they moved together to kiss. The correct tilt of the head seemed automatic, even at their uneven heights. The kiss deepened and each of the teens opened further to each other, wrapped up in their discoveries.

«There’s no reason to stay in the kitchen,» Jaime said.

«Yeah,» Keira said, taking Trayce’s hand and leading her back to Jaime’s bedroom. They all crawled onto the bed and sat facing each other.

«I love you, Jaime,» Keira said. «I love you, Trayce.»

«I love you, Keira,» Trayce picked up immediately. «I love you, Jaime.»

Jaime hesitated a moment as if struggling over the thought and the girls began to worry.

“I love you, Keira. I love you, Trayce,” he squeaked out in his out-loud voice.

“Jaime!” Keira said. Trayce just stared open-mouthed.

«I had to say it with my out-loud voice, before I could say it in our heads. I love you both so much. Please don’t die!»

«It hurt!» Trayce said. «I didn’t know it actually hurt you to use your out-loud voice! Oh, Jaime! I’m so sorry!»

«It’s okay, baby. I did it for you. I’d do it again.»

All three understood his reference to calling out for them at the inn when they couldn’t use their inner voices. It was what Trayce had connected to instantly.

«I didn’t know! I didn’t know!» Trayce cried. «You never have to use your out-loud voice again! I didn’t want to hurt you.»

«I didn’t know, either,» Keira said. «I thought it was just a choice you made because of… you know… your mother. Jaime, I didn’t know it hurt you to speak.»

«I wasn’t sure. It hurt each time I did it, but I don’t know why.»

«It’s okay! Don’t do it again!» Trayce cried. «I can’t stand to have you hurt like that. Just kiss me and make the hurt go away.»

Jaime pulled Trayce to him and kissed her. She opened herself fully to him and wrapped him in mental arms for a long hug. Perhaps she had been withholding a part of herself from him because she thought he was withholding his voice. Now she let go of all her fears and preconceptions and let Jaime flow through her as they kissed.

«I’m… Oh, Jaime… I’m going to…»

«Yes, come!» Keira said, holding Trayce from the other side.

Neither Keira nor Jaime had their own orgasm at that moment. They joined in Trayce’s and let it wash over the three of them.

«Just from a kiss,» Trayce whispered. «Is it even safe to have sex?»

«It was more than ‘just a kiss.’ We could feel your whole being open to us. It was so wonderful,» Keira said.

Trayce turned to her and opened herself in a kiss with her girlfriend. As the kiss deepened, both girls got more and more turned on. Jaime, holding them from behind, read their reluctance to dip into another orgasm so quickly, so he lent his strength to tempering the emotional effect a little.

They still sighed and were glassy-eyed when they parted.

«I… Have you… Has it been like that for the two of you all the time?» Trayce asked.

«When I kiss Keira, my world folds into hers. We’ve definitely both come just from kissing.»

«Kissing and the shared feeling of love,» Keira said. «That’s what I felt from you, Trayce. Such a deep wonderful love.»

«I do love you both. Kiss each other and let me share in that,» Trayce said.

Jaime and Keira were only too glad to follow that instruction. Jaime had accurately described it as his world folding into hers. He gave up everything in himself to Keira. When they parted, having fended off an approaching orgasm for each of them, they found Trayce with tears dripping down her face.

«Honey? It’s okay, baby. We love you just as much,» Keira said.

Trayce nodded and smiled through her tears. She sniffled a little and Jaime reached for a tissue for her.

«I’ll never be able to write about this,» she said. «I don’t have that many words. When we were sharing, a thousand emotions opened in me and I don’t know words for a quarter of them. Our contact was in color and pictures and emotions. How could I ever write that?»

«Well, you experience it over and over,» Jaime suggested. «You manage to isolate one thing each time and then find a word for that one thing. Then the next time, you capture another image or feeling. You work on finding a word for that.»

«It will take forever!» Trayce laughed.

«What are you doing for the rest of your life?» Keira asked. «I hope it includes us.»

«The rest of my… Oh, God! Yes! We’ll have lots of time to experience every one of those emotions and colors and pictures! I’m so much in love!»

The three teens began to focus on the process of getting to the next stage without being so overwhelmed they couldn’t move. Their previous make-out sessions had the strict rule of keeping clothes on and hands above the waist. Those rules no longer applied. The cute pajama tops joined Jaime’s T-shirt in a pile on the floor.

They were caught up in discoveries as they tried to touch every bit of bare skin. A ticklish spot. A tiny birthmark. A dimple.

And then the bottoms joined their tops in the pile as they continued to explore each other with their fingers and their lips. Breasts and nipples were touched and licked and sucked. Cock and pussies were stroked. Both the girls and Jaime were giving and receiving the many touches and kisses.

And each touch took them deeper into each other. They lost track of whose sex was being licked or touched or penetrated. Having had some deep experiences when kissing, they were able to simply revel in the experience of sex. Of love. When Jaime entered one girl, both felt the union. When a girl licked the other, Jaime tasted her on his tongue. And after building and restraining themselves for what seemed hours, when one finally reached a peak, orgasm washed over all three.

The experience was so intense that they simply held each other and tried to let their brains process the experience as their bodies gave in to sleep.

Sleep was in intervals of shared dreams and waking was in pairs. Trayce awoke with Jaime and invited him into her. They experienced a deep joining of their spirits as Keira followed along with them in her dreams. Keira and Trayce made love as Jaime watched in his dreams in wonder at the beauty of his girlfriends.

And when Jaime and Keira made love, Trayce was with them, not taking her own pleasure, but riding in the intense love the two had for each other.

They stumbled out of bed in the morning and showered, washing each other, and continuing their explorations before dressing in casual clothing to have breakfast.

«My soulmates,» Jaime said as they prepared bacon, eggs, and toast. They were all famished and drank half a quart of juice while they were preparing. «Dad will be here in half an hour or so. I’m pretty sure he’ll bring Olivia. We need to tell our parents.»

«I think they know after we spent last night in the same bed,» Keira laughed.

«I mean we need to tell them about our connection. The two of you opened more to me last night than I ever imagined possible. And I could hear my dad worrying about me. And your parents, too.»

«I thought I heard my mom,» Trayce said. «I kind of thought to her, ‘It’s okay. I’m okay. Please accept us.’ That wasn’t too much was it?»

«Pretty much the same as what I thought to my parents, but I never considered they might actually hear me. That’s still so new,» Keira said.

«I think they deserve to know how deep a connection we have, what went on between Christmas and New Year’s, and why we are all three together. Maybe I’ve been wrong keeping it from my dad all this time. He deserves to know what happened with my mom. I just always felt so guilty and isolated before and now I feel so connected I need to heal what I can.»

«It’s going to be hard with my mom,» Trayce said. «She’s worried about hearing voices and has some drugs her psychiatrist prescribed to keep them away.»

«Aunt Rose says the drugs don’t actually silence the voices, they just help you ignore them. The idea is that you ignore them for so long, eventually you don’t recognize they’re there at all.»

«Yeah. The problem is that she’ll want me to go on them, too and I don’t want to lose you.»

«We’re actual people you see and hear,» Jaime said. «Not just voices in your head anymore.»

«Mmmhmm. You sure were real last night!» Trayce grinned. «And this morning.»

«Dad and Olivia are almost here,» Jaime said. «Help me, okay?»

Jaime and Keira and Trayce and David and Olivia

“I want to use the TTS app for a conversation because Olivia doesn’t know sign language and it would be hard to get what I’m going to say across even through an interpreter as good as Keira is,” Jaime typed into his computer.

“Okay, son. You are still all three here, so I’m going to assume the night was good for you. We don’t need to go into it in detail.”

“Yeah. We’re all good. That isn’t exactly what we want to talk about. This is really hard to put in words,” Jaime typed. “I’ll start by saying, Keira, Trayce, and I are psychically linked. It isn’t about three kids being physically attracted to each other. Which we are, too.”

“What kind of psychic link? You’re telepathic?” Olivia asked. She seemed more open to the possibility than David did.

“Yes. In a word. We can talk to each other in our heads. But it goes deeper than that. I’ve been able to read other people’s thoughts from the moment I was born. That’s what overwhelmed my body and almost killed me. I didn’t figure out that was what happened until it happened again.”

“When I found you in the closet in a coma,” David said. “I told the nurse on 9-1-1 that it was like what happened to you when you were born,” David said.

“Yes.”

“Wait! You don’t talk because you communicate mentally?” David asked.

“I’ve spoken aloud three times in my life,” Jaime said. Tears were beginning to form in his eyes. “It hurts. Mentally and physically. The first time… I’m so sorry, Dad. The first time was when Mom wasn’t paying attention to me and I wanted a drink. So, I asked her aloud. I’m sorry.”

“She never mentioned that,” David said.

“She died. She was so surprised that she fainted and fell on the broken glass. I killed her!”

The shock appeared on David’s face for only a moment before he launched himself toward his son and wrapped him in his arms.

“No! No, son! You didn’t kill her! That was an accident. It’s not your fault. You were four years old! Jaime, you didn’t kill her! You didn’t! The doctor said she had an aneurysm. It wasn’t you at all!”

Jaime was overwhelmed with the information. He began crying and hugging his father.

Keira and Trayce put their hands on Jaime’s head and he reached out to touch his father’s face.

«Dad, I swore I would never use my out-loud voice again, and I kept that vow until a month ago.»

“I… I heard you,” David said, backing up to his chair. “I heard you in my head!”

“Our psychic gift is one of listening,” Jaime returned to typing. Keira grabbed a tissue and wiped his eyes. “When Trayce and Keira and I are together and we touch a person… at least some people… we can cause them to hear us.”

“That’s amazing,” Olivia said. “Would you give me a message?”

Jaime smiled, but figured that might be the response of most of the parents. He nodded and Olivia scooted closer.

Will Jaime accept me as a stepmother? she thought loudly enough that all three teens picked up on it immediately. Jaime put his hands on Olivia’s.

«When are you and Dad going to get married? It would be really nice to have you around. Yes, I’ll accept you as my stepmom.»

“Oh! Oh, thank you!” Olivia said, sitting back. “I’m a believer, David.”

“I don’t know how I could not be,” David said. “Jaime is my son. He wouldn’t lie to me. Uh… When else did you use your voice?”

“A month ago,” Jaime typed. “A weird psychologist had kidnapped Trayce. That’s why we went to Astoria. She was being held in an old inn that prevented cell, microwave, RF, brainwave, and about everything else from penetrating. I had to out-loud yell for her in order to find her. Yeah. It hurt. But I had to do it.”

“Did you call police? We need to make sure this guy doesn’t try something again.”

“That’s another aspect of the whole thing we only found out that day,” Jaime typed. “There were four of us. Emerson isn’t psychic, but she connected with us when we were all four holding hands. We were able to give Schwartz a psychic command to abandon his practice and his research. And he obeyed. He won’t trouble us again.”

“That’s a little frightening,” Olivia said.

“We’re not going to go around giving orders to people,” Jaime typed. “We might not even be able to under ordinary circumstances.”

“And when was the third time you used your out-loud voice?” David persisted.

“Last night. I had to tell Keira and Trayce I loved them aloud before I could tell them in my mind. It hurt, but it was so worth it!”

Trayce and Keira both kissed Jaime on his head.

“I’m inclined to just accept all this, though I know I’ll have a ton of questions when it settles in,” David said. “Forgive me if I don’t always get it. I might need more explaining and… and help accepting in the future. I’d say I’m remarkably calm about it all, but my hands are shaking, so I know that’s only a surface feeling. What’s next?”

“We figure we need to go explain all this to my parents and Trayce’s mom. I think it’s going to be a long day,” Keira said.

“I can imagine. If you want us along for support, we’ll come. Won’t we, Olivia?”

“Of course, David. Jaime, it’s a little like a fairy tale or a science fiction story, but I am, by God, going to accept it and all three of you. Anything I can do, I will,” Olivia said.

Jaime and Trayce and Keira and John and Julia

Telling Keira’s parents involved calling in Aunt Rose. Without admitting that she too was a head talker, Rose indicated she had done several tests that confirmed what they said was true. She also said she had counseled all three kids on their relationship and felt it was healthy and mutually supportive.

“I just knew there was something more to it all than it appeared,” John said. “And Rose, we need to talk. Just the three of us. All three of these kids are eighteen, so aside from withholding affection and making life difficult for them, I don’t see anything we could do about their relationship. And I am not inclined to do either of those. So, kids, if not our blessing at the moment, you at least have our tolerance. And our love. Never be afraid to come to us when you need a hug or advice. We are really on your side.”

They breathed a sigh of relief at that and headed to Trayce’s house to talk to Lanie.

Jaime and Keira and Trayce and Lanie

“Mom, life’s been hard on us since we lost Dad,” Trayce said as they sat together. “I know you’ve talked about some of your problems and what finally got you to seek counseling and AA. I had a lot of the same problems. I didn’t abuse substances, but I was feeling and acting a little crazy. Then I met and fell in love with Jaime and Keira. Yeah. Both of them.”

“I could tell there was a special bond among you when they came and swore to find you and bring you home. Are you… um… all three…?”

“Yes, Mom. Jaime is my boyfriend and Keira is my girlfriend and we are all three together. I honestly never considered how I would tell my mother that I’m no longer a virgin, but there you have it,” Trayce said.

“Please, just tell me it was good and you are happy,” Lanie said.

“Oh, yeah! Really really good.”

Lanie hugged Trayce and then turned to hug Keira and Jaime.

“Three children instead of just one? How blessed I am,” she said.

“There’s something else we need to tell you about and it will be harder to accept, I’m afraid. I fought against it for months,” Trayce continued.

“You’re not pregnant!”

“No! I’m sure of that. But… you mentioned that you heard voices and that was part of what motivated you to get counseling.”

“Not just voices. Evil, nasty voices telling me to do terrible things,” Lanie said. “They wanted me to hurt myself and you. They filled my mind with blood and terror. They told me that if I wasn’t happy, no one should be happy. No. It wasn’t just voices. It was the sound of my nightmares.”

“Oh, Mom. I’m so sorry you went through that. I… um… hear voices, too. But they aren’t evil and nasty. They’re the voices of my boyfriend and girlfriend,” Trayce said.

“Well… I guess I don’t understand.”

“Jaime and Keira and I can talk to each other in our heads. Not just when we’re together, but even when we’re miles apart. When I was kidnapped, I cried out to them from Astoria and they heard me. I’d still be there, drugged into a stupor, if they hadn’t heard me.”

“So, it’s not just that you are mute, Jaime. You don’t actually need your voice. I see.”

«Is she okay?» Keira asked Jaime and Trayce. «She seems like it isn’t anything out of the ordinary.»

«She doesn’t want a demonstration,» Trayce said. «She thinks it’s enough to accept that we are a family. I think we should let it drop.»

«I agree,» Jaime said.

They wrapped up the conversation with Lanie and then went out to dinner. They chose to at last go to the café in the bookstore.

Jaime and Keira and Trayce

«It’s a real relief to have told our parents, even if they are skeptical,» Keira said.

«Yeah, but did anyone notice that we don’t have any place to all three go together and make love tonight?» Trayce thought with a giggle.

«That’s only one of the hurdles we’ve got to cross,» Jaime said. «Our parents accept that we are all three together, but they aren’t going to make it any easier to be sexually active than any other teen’s parents are going to do. We have four more months of school. We need to figure out if we’re all going to the same college. We need to figure out how much time we want to spend together and apart. We need to deal with all the things everybody needs to deal with in a relationship, plus our individual privacy and mental sharing.»

«We can do it, though, right?» Keira asked. «Please tell me you both think we can really make this work.»

«You called us soulmates,» Trayce said, holding Jaime and Keira’s hands. «I just found you and I never want to give you up.»

«Then we’ll work it all out,» Jaime said. «We just need to take it one step at a time.»

«You’ve had something else bubbling in the back of your mind, love,» Keira said. «Something we should be aware of?»

The three joined hands in a circle.

«I still think we need to be really careful. Did you notice how easily our parents all accepted us as a threesome? Last night or early this morning, we were all joined together basking in our mutual orgasms when we each whispered a little prayer to our parents. I know we each thought nearly the same thing. “Please accept us.” I’m not saying we commanded them, but I believe we might at least have influenced their acceptance of us. That’s great. That’s what we wanted. It kept harmony in our families. But we need to be really careful about things like that if we really can influence other people with our minds. Maybe it’s not like commanding Schwartz to abandon his career and his research, but it’s still wielding unfair influence.»

«I didn’t consider that,» Trayce said. «It just seemed like a normal thing to say—like anyone would have said it.»

«It was,» Keira said. «But anyone else couldn’t have affected the actual result of saying it while we were linked so deeply. I guess we still have a lot to learn.»

«Here’s to years and years together to learn it,» Jaime said.
